We drove from Athens and enjoyed every bite. I had no room for the wonderful peach cobbler, so I got a to go serving. We certainly had a very good time at Sylvia Mae's Place. I can hardly wait to go again.

Food took tooooooooooo long. They didnt have the meatloaf sandwich because they didnt have the meatloaf day... green beans took forever to get to me. Food was great though, but too long. Building is also not accommodating to many people.

If you grew up anywhere in Texas any time before 1960, these are the dishes your Mother and Grandmother cooked. The ultimate comfort food. Three friends and I on a road trip stopped there yesterday. We all grew up in different parts of Texas but we all have the same memories of the dishes Sylvia Mae cooks. It was wonderful food!

Food and Sylvia are awesome!! She really does need some help though.. poor thing runs it all herself..

I had smothered pork chops pinto beans tomato and cucumber salad very tender with the 40 weight gravy beans season to perfection I will be back

Just the best food and a sweet owner. We drive up from Humble every 2 or 3 months.

About 2 years ago, I organized 5 retired motorcycle folks living in Austin to ride with me up to Silva Maes for lunch...so, 200 miles for lunch...and it was well worth it. Silva held up a white board with about 20 options and asked me what I wanted. I told her there wasn't anything on that that I DID NOT want. Genuine Soul Food. Rerouted a trip this year to put me in Jacksonville at meal time and I sit here plotting an add of 100 miles to my trip so I can eat for a third time a Silva Maes. Best Soul Food Ever.

Great food and service we just came in wrong time 2 many people a party of about 30 came in right after we came in but will be back

Delicious home-cooked food with super friendly service. This was my first time eating here, but I was welcomed in like I've been coming here for years. I love finding small, locally-owned restaurants that serve surprisingly great food. This is definitely one of them!!

This place is amazing. Authentic food, authentic people. Sylvia Mae is so friendly, and was willing to adapt almost anything on the menu to make it gluten free for me. I could even eat the hot water cornbread because it was gluten free! Best soul food experience I've had in a long time.

Sylvia Mae is amazing! It's like sitting down at her own dining room table and enjoying some amazing family recipes, while being able to fellowship with a simply fantastic lady and, I believe, her son. Well worth every trip to Jacksonville! It's a small dining room, so be prepared to wait a second or two to sit down.

Amazing food! Everything on the menu is great but the smothered pork chops are the best! All is cooked old school like your Grandmother made it. You want home cooking? This is your place! Also Mrs. Sylvia Mae is the sweetest Christian lady and loves her customers.

The best soul food in the world. When you walk in , you are immediately family. Sylvia will make you feel at home. Every once in awhile , you can hear her in the kitchen singing while cooking

Great food the real deal limited seating look for Sylvia on her table in the middle of the restaurant making her Banana pudding. Be sure to try hit water corn bread.

Southern favorites, friendly folks all around. Relax, notice that everyone is happy and not counting calories, just enjoying the food and company.

Awesome experience! The food was fabulous - we had 14 in our group and we tasted each other's dish - all was delicious and they did not scrimp on the servings! Sylvia puts her heart and soul into every dish 💖

Best catfish I've ever had.

I recently ate at Sylvia Mae's soul food restaurant in Jacksonville Texas. Truly an amazing find. Miss Sylvia was very welcoming and has a true gift for cooking. The food was absolutely amazing, a meal that reminds you of family dinners and days long passed, it really warms the heart. If you are in Jacksonville and you don't go by, you're missing out.

In the attached picture you can see someone "borrowing" a bite of the sweet and tangy meatloaf special. Can't blame him...it was that good. The homemade mashed potatoes and the mac and cheese are to die for. Last but not least is the pecan pie....oh my, it's awesome!

What an awesome visit!! The food took me back in time to my grandmother's cooking and tasted just like she was there!! The food and the fellowship and warmth of the establishment is to be highly recommended!!! Don't ever close!!

Great Food! Came upon this place by accident, and I am so happy that I did. I wish that I could give it 10+ stars!

I like this place, my granny grew up here in Jacksonville, and she wouldn't be eating here if the food was nasty ( that says a lot). She opened up at 11am but my granny called in a order before she even opened up... She still made her order and even brought it out to the car. I'll give her 5 stars 👌🏼

We love her food! Perfect again--this was the 2nd time we ate there, and this time we did takeout. Delicious greens and mac and cheese, and the soulburger was fabulous! Sylvia is so sweet, too!

Amazing home cooked southern food. -1 Star cause it needs a good scrub (tables, walls, etc.) food is soooooo worth it though

Sylvia Mae has the absolute best food in Jacksonville, Texas! You can taste the quality and love in each bite served with honest Southern hospitality.

Don't dare pass this place up!! I saw a segment on "The Texas Country Reporter" about it, and recognized it immediately on Trip Advisor. It's EVERYTHING it's cracked up to be!! Don't be fooled if the parking lot isn't full, or thrown off by the quaint and humble appearance. This was by far the BEST home cooking I've ever had. Sylvia Mae's gumbo is the best I've ever eaten, and I've had The Gumbo Shop's gumbo in New Orleans!!We also had the Chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes and some tasty purple hull peas. Don't pass up the hot-water cornbread. De-lish-us!! Only wish I would have saved room for the homemade coconut cream pie.

Simplicity at it's best, great home cooking & plentiful portions. Excellent soul food menu for entrees and the side dishes are perfect. Already looking forward to the next visit!

I’ve been here twice with my family, and it. Is. FANTASTIC. I recommend the grilled chicken with Mac and cheese, with sweet potatoes. They’re to die for. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had such nice food, or friendly service. Don’t let this place’s outward appearance deter you- you just might miss the greatest blessing in Jacksonville.
